There is / There are

Verwende "there is", um zu sagen, dass etwas existiert, oder um ein Substantiv im Singular oder ein unzählbares Substantiv zu beschreiben. Verwende "there are" für Substantive im Plural. In Fragen tauscht man Subjekt und Verb: "Is there...?"

WANN MAN ES VERWENDET

Verwende "there is/are", um die Existenz von etwas einzuführen oder anzukündigen. Es ist sehr häufig, um zu beschreiben, was sich an einem Ort befindet, oder um festzustellen, dass etwas existiert (oder nicht existiert).

STRUKTUR

It is a problem with the computer.

Verwende "there is", um die Existenz von etwas einzuführen — nicht "it is"

There is many students in the class.

There are many students in the class.

Verwende "there are" mit Substantiven im Plural

Tipp

Das Verb "is" oder "are" richtet sich nach dem Substantiv, das folgt, nicht nach "there". Achte also darauf, was danach kommt: "There IS a dog" (Singular) vs. "There ARE dogs" (Plural).
