First Conditional

De Eerste Voorwaardelijke Zin beschrijft echte of mogelijke situaties in de toekomst. Als de voorwaarde in de if-zin vervuld is, is het resultaat in de hoofdzin waarschijnlijk. Structuur: If + present simple, will + grondvorm. De if-zin en hoofdzin kunnen in beide volgordes staan.

WANNEER TE GEBRUIKEN

Gebruik het voor echte, mogelijke toekomstige situaties — wanneer de voorwaarde realistisch en waarschijnlijk is. Gebruikelijk voor waarschuwingen, beloften, onderhandelingen en toekomstplannen die afhangen van een voorwaarde.

STRUCTUUR

If it rains tomorrow, I will stay at home.

**Als** het morgen **regent**, **blijf** ik thuis.

negativeIf + present simple, won't + base verb

If you don't study, you won't pass the exam.

**Als** je niet **studeert**, **zul** je het examen niet **halen**.

In de if-zin gebruik je present simple — NIET "will"

If you study hard, you pass the exam.

If you study hard, you will pass the exam.

De resultaatzin heeft "will" nodig in de eerste voorwaardelijke

Tip

Onthoud: de IF-zin staat in het heden (ook al gaat het over de toekomst). De resultaatzin gebruikt WILL. Een veelgebruikte ezelsbrug: "If + present, will + future".
